The 2006 Queen Christina Nations Cup
was sailed in Vancouver, Canada on August 18 & 19, 2006 at
Kitsilano YC. Weather was excellent, with northwest 11 to 15 kn.
of breeze each day, sunny skies and 22 degrees.
The fleet of 5 classic boats sailed 4 races each day, for a series
total of 8 races. After one discard, the USA crew won the regatta
and the cup, with FIN in second place, followed by GBR and SUI.

Each crew sailed two races in each of 4 classic boats:
| Ca Va |
|
1936 |
| Saga |
|
1936 |
| Gallant |
|
1947 |
| Maybe VII |
|
1952 |
Since SWE and GER dropped out at the last minute, the local organizers
asked a Canadian crew to sail the restored 1934 classic Saskia,
a boat assumed to be somewhat uncompetitive. Olympic Silver medalist
(Star) Ross Macdonald managed to bring the boat to the top position
on points, but the host country is, of course, not eligible to win
the regatta.

The Canadian crew had the youngest and oldest sailors at the regatta.
Foredeck was Ross Jespersen, age 12; tactician was his grandfather
Bent Jespersen. Ross's dad, Eric, kindly provided his boat San Mateo
as the committee boat for the regatta, as well as sailing as the
owner's rep on his Gallant.
The crews changed boats after each two races, which seemed to make
the transitions to new deck layout and halyard arrangements easier.

Invitation to the World Cup 2009
July 29, 2005
International Six Meter Association (ISMA)
Geneva, Switzerland
Attention Mr. Bernard Haissly
President
bernard.haissly@swlegal.ch
Dear Mr. Haissly:
I t is with great pleasure and pride that the Museum of Yachting
would like to express our interest in hosting the 2009 6-Meter World
Championships in Newport, Rhode Island.
As you probably know, newport is famous for hosting some of the
world's top yachting events, including the America's Cup, The Newport
to Bermuda Race, stops on many around the world events, the first
act of the 2007 America's program (with BMW / Oracle and Alinghi
match racing in our waters last season), as well as several national
and international class world championships each year. To host your
event, we have the physical resources and experienced race management
volunteers that are second to none.
The Museum of Yachting has a significant history in hosting events
such as yours and we would be pleased to fully host, or to coordinate
the co-hosting of the event with a partner yacht club in the area.
The Museum of Yachting has been the organizing authority for many
recent events, including the 12 Meter North Americans, as well as,
for the past 25 years, the Annual Classic Yacht Regatta which comprises
of two days of racing for over 75 vintage and classic yachts in
all shapes and sizes.
It is also our understanding that the New York Yacht Club may be
expressed interest in hosting this event as well and it would be
natural fit with either / both of our organizations as the New York
Yacht Club acts as our official Race Committee for the Classic Yacht
Regatta and we cooperate often on various activities. We would be
happy to coordinate efforts with them as well.
In closing, I am confident that the 2009 6-Meter World Championships
would be a tremendous success in Newport and we are interested in
doing whatever possible to encourage you to consider holding the
event in our waters.
Sincerely,
William Doyle
Chairman
Museum of Yachting

Courage IX 6mJI Modern World Champion 2005
German Courage IX new world champion
- Finally, we did it!
The new champion, GER 118, Courage IX, played it safe to make it to
the top in the neonode 6mR WC. Skipper Dietrich Gruenau, helmsman
Alba Batzill and tactician Eddy Eich had one thing in their minds
for today's race, stay close to Battlecry. No further behind than
four boats. The strategy worked and the gold belongs to Germany.
Two years ago in France it was the other way around, Courage had a
great chance to win before the last race and lost it to Swedish Notorious.
The crew has been sailing together since 1999 and has always been
among the top three though they never won.
- We're very happy, especially when this is the first season with
the new boat, says Alba Batzill.
A bit disappointed to begin with, Ben Clothier and his crew on Battlecry
came in to shore.
- We tried so hard to keep a distance to Courage, says Ben Clothier.
We did all the right things but it wasn't enough. But on the other
side, this is the best result we've ever made and we lost to a very
good boat and an excellent crew.
The winner of the last race was SUI 77, Fleau, securing the bronze
medal just ahead of S 115 May Be XIV, best Swedish boat in the championship.
May Be XIV had a chance for the silver. They decided to go for it.
- We've played safe during the whole regatta, says Patric Fredell,
skipper May Be XIV. Today we went for it. Rather take the chance for
a silver and lose than play safe. I?m satisfied with our fourth place
in this competition.
The last day of the regatta saw clouds, a few raindrops and winds
from east-northeast, 8'12 knots.

Sunray 6mJI Classic World Champion 2005
Danish Sunray wins classic 6metre
After eight very varying sailings in light and sunny, wet,
rainy and very windy weather, the classic 6metre class was finished
on Saturday.
27 out of the 29 entered boats finished the race. The oldest boats,
Norwegian Mosquito from 1913 and Swedish Gulldisken from 1922, chose
to withdraw from three and six respective sailings. The excitement
was still very high between the remaining boats, who produced even
fights in the last races.
Before the last race, Danish Sunray in first place had 20 points,
German Lillevi, 22, points, and Finnish Toy in third place, had 23
points.
The final and deciding race on Saturday finished with Sunray winning
the championship for classic 6 metres with 22 points. Skipper on Danish
Sunray is the Norwegian ship broker Hans J Oen, who lives in New York
since 1965. Sunray is owned by Danish Jörgen Jensen and is therefore
sailing under Danish flag.
Hans is very pleased with the result and with all arrangements in
Sandhamn.
Plans were that Hans should have sailed his own classic 6metre Elisabeth
X, from 1947, designed by Bjarne Aas, who among other participated
in the Olympics in Helsinki 1952. But the two owners didn't succeed
to pull together two crews and therefore chose to sail only with Sunray.
Finnish boats came in both second and third place, Toy second with
26 points, and Fridolin third with 30 points. Best of the Swedish
boats was Fågel Blå, who came in fifth with 37 points.

Dear 6mR Sailors,
The planning of the 2005 World Championship follows the project
schedule, and so far we have pre-registered over 56 entrant yachts!
This is in line with our ambitions of attracting around 70 -80 yachts.
The pre-registration allows us to continue the planning for the
biggest 6mR-event ever! We do believe there are still around 10
classics and 15 moderns preparing to participate. Make sure you
are on site for the most challenging Championship event in 6mR history!
In this second Newsletter you will find information about transportation
and logistics both for international and local freight. This has
been done in a FAQ-format. By scrolling through the FAQ, you will
also find a map of Stockholm including Sandhamn, Bullandö (KSSS´s
launching harbour for yachts arriving by land) and other relevant
locations.
Welcome to the 6 Metre World Championship 2005 in Sandhamn, Sweden!
General information
General information All information regarding World Championship
2005 in Sandhamn will be published on the official Swedish 6mR website
(www.6mr.se). Here
you will find all information about the event including logistics,
contact persons and pre-entry lists.
Accomodation
Accommodation The final decision regarding Korsö as accommodation
facility (www.6mr.se)
is still pending. Hopefully KSSS can start receiving bookings soon.
This will vastly increase the accommodation options at Sandhamn
and hopefully also resolve the most important issue besides the
actual regatta. KSSS informs that there are still 138 beds left
in different categories (2005-02-23). The whole Sandhamns Hotel
is currently reserved for 6mR World Championship participants. Bookings
can be made directly to the hotel (see FAQ below) by referring your
reservation to the 6mR World Championship.
The new Web Portal
The new web will soon be ready for launching. The new www.6mr.se
will become our communication highway including all needed information
about the World Championship 2005. We have put much effort in making
the content interesting and easy to navigate through all sorts of
topics.
All pre-registered yacht owners will soon receive an email with
instructions on how to proceed. This will give yacht owners access
to their yachts webpage. Take the opportunity to fill in as much
information as possible. By following our guidelines, the information
will become searchable in accordance with the visitors search criteria’s.

Where is Sandhamn?
Sandhamn is a small Island located in the outer archipelago of Stockholm,
only 25 nm from Stockholm City.
An excellent harbour with many possible recreation facilities ashore
makes Sandhamn a great place to visit. The old village is clustered
tightly around the harbour, with tiny plots of land and narrow,
well-trodden alleys between the cottages and fences. The family
friendly beaches along with the charming little village with small
shops, restaurants and bars creates Sandhamn’s unique atmosphere.
Sandhamn is only a 2 h boat-trip from Stockholm, where you will
find an endless list of activities including golf, shopping, museums,
theatres and music, everything surrounded by water.

6mJI European Championship 2004 in Porto Rotondo, Sardinia
|

|
A short report:
The EC 2004 was a splendid event, even when the Yacht Club
Porto Rotondo could host unfortunately 5 classic and 7 modern
6mJI yachts only.
Each 6mJI owner who decided not to be there has missed other
ten summer days, a charming Yacht Club with President Gian
Battista Borea d’Olma and his professional staff and
6 days racing with winds from 8 to 20 kn.
The wind-shifts are forgotten now, but all the nice races
and unforgettable events which have been offered to the sailors
and their teams will not. ISMA and the participants thank
to all the gentle people engaged for this EC. They have been
engaged for us, not to forget Marina and Luigi Carpaneda –
they proposed us this nice place to sail – and Omega
as a generous sponsor for us.

bleiben in Erinnerung.
Sponsor.
